TAYLOR, Mich. - One person is dead and two are battling for their lives after a shooting in Taylor.
A woman and her 7-year-old daughter were shot in the head by a man who then shot himself in the parking lot of the Sportsplex on Telegraph near North Line at about 8 p.m.
Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said it is a suspected murder-suicide, but it is not known what relationship the man had with the two victims, who were from the Van Buren Township area.
A source close to the scene confirmed that the man was older than the woman and is not her boyfriend or husband.
The girl was airlifted to to Mott Children's Hospital on the University of Michigan medical campus after first going to Beaumont Hospital Dearborn.
"Shortly before 8 p.m. we got a call that there was shots fired at the Sportsplex," Sclabassi said. "It is a place where there is a lot of soccer practice, and a lot of activity going on. We arrived at the scene and found one deceased male in the parking lot and an injured female and young girl. Both were taken to the hospital with serious gunshot wounds."
Mario Scicula is the little girl's soccer coach, who said his prayers are with the family.
"I'm in a little bit of shock I pray that everyone is okay," ScicIuna said. "I want everyone to know they can send their thoughts and prayers to the family."
