DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit Police said they arrested the man who they said hit and killed a 53-year-old woman Thursday evening on the city's west side.
Police were called to the intersection of Penrod and Warren, just west of the Southfield Freeway, around 5:50 Thursday evening. Police said a 53-year-old woman was crossing Warren with her 15-year-old granddaughter when they were hit by speeding car.
According to police, the car was a red Ford Explorer that was going west on Warren. The driver did not stop after hitting the victim, police said.
The woman did not survive her injuries.
Police said they arrested a 57-year-old man earlier Friday morning, around 1:40, at a house just a mile away from the crash, in the 6000 block of Stahelin. His name has not been released.
