ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) - The first Halloween for parents and their precious newborns can be an exciting time so a mom who once had a child in the Beaumont NICU made sure that all the babies in their care got the love and attention they deserve.

Ingrid Peeples is a Beaumont systems analysts and her daughter spent time in the NICU when she was born prematurely. She said she knows that going the extra mile for families can make a world of difference.

“I was a Beaumont, Royal Oak NICU mom myself, when my daughter was born premature four-and-a-half years ago, and the volunteers and Parenting Program did so much good for my family and my daughter,” Peeples recalled.

So Peeples and her friend, Sarah Roberts, created dozens of Halloween costumes to lay over the babies in the NICU. Parents had a variety of costumes to choose from, including a Lions jersey, taco, superheroes, and JIF peanut butter. Peeples was even taking personal requests as parents selected which costume they wanted in the Family Lounge.

“This is my way of bringing some smiles to the families,” Peeples said. “It can be a difficult time in the NICU, so any opportunity families can celebrate with their babies is amazing. It’s Halloween. Every parent wants to dress their child up, and I hope these costumes can bring some normalcy for the holiday.”
