Woman hits man on dirt bike and leaves scene in Detroit

A woman had the gall to flee the scene of an accident involving a dirt bike after getting out of her vehicle, and looking straight at the badly injured man.

It happened Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Seven Mile and Pierson on Detroit’s west side.

“I just heard this - as I was on my bike - that he had got hit right up here. I saw his bike right down the street but I didn’t see him,” said Chris Oliver, a friend of victim.

People who know the victim are furious. They and police are calling for the driver to turn herself in.

“Unfortunately for her, this occurred near one of our green light locations, so we do have video of this incident,” said Capt. Darin Szilagy, Detroit Police Department.

Police have no update on the 22-year-old victim's status since he was rushed to the hospital in very critical condition. So far they are not releasing surveillance video at this time.

“We're asking that motorist, come forward before we have to come look for you. Let's resolve this.”

The collision happened as the woman was turning from Seven Mile onto Pierson. Police say the dirt bike was not up to code, didn't have proper lighting, and was likely difficult to see.

“He was a good kid from what I know,” said Oliver.

“It’s horrible.”

The woman was driving a blue or black Ford Expedition or Chevy Suburban. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police.
